Six centuries of the finest fine and decorative arts in Europe can be explored at the Walker Art Gallery. It also contains Big Art for Little Artists, an interactive gallery for children to explore the collection through games, costumes, books and fun arts and crafts.  Open daily 10am-5pm, Free entry

Bridget Riley: Flashback
Until 13 December

Colourful and vibrant paintings are on display in a major new touring exhibition examining the career of one of Britain’s most well-known artists.

The Rise of Women Artists
23 October to 14 March 2009

Featuring an extensive range of artworks from the gallery’s permanent collection the exhibiton traces the historical changes affecting women artists. The exhibition includes work key pioneers of women’s art as well as contemporary artits such as Helen Chadwick and Paula Rego.

Big Art for Little Artists:

Big Art for Little Artists
is our children’s gallery that brings art to life through paintings, sculpture, toys and costumes. Get creative with hands-on activities and interactive fun!

Join us in Big Art for a chance to meet other parents and babies and take part in specially designed activities (under 5s). Due to high demand booking is essential, call 0151 478 4178.

Firework fun
6, 7  November 2009: 1-4pm

Use a variety of collage materials to create your own firework picture and set your weekend celebrations off with a bang! (suitable for over 3’s)

Penguin playmates
19, 20  December 2009: 1-4pm

Drop into Big Art and make your own penguin model inspired by Go Penguins. (suitable for over 5’s)

Festive fun
21-24 December 2009: 1-4pm

Get into the festive spirit and join us for a different Christmas activity each day. (suitable for over 3’s)

Cityscape badges
21, 22  November 2009: 1-4pm

Get creative and make your own cityscape badge. Be inspired by the Liver Building, Radio City tower or the city skyline in Ben Johnson’s Liverpool Cityscape. (suitable for over 5s)

Go potty about penguins!
12 December 2009: 1-4pm

Get into the spirit of Go Penguins! and create a crazy penguin using a variety of collage materials. (suitable for over 5’s)

Breaking it down
24 October 2009: 1,2,3pm

Break down the Liverpool Cityscape layer by layer in this fun session. Take a fresh look at the cityscape and explore texture, layers and line drawings to create your own interpretation of the picture.

Big Draw activities
October weekends: various times

To celebrate the Big Draw we’re running a variety of drawing workshops over October weekends. Be inspired by our collections and get creative in a range of fun activities. See website for further details.

Workshop week
26 – 30 October 2009: 1-4pm

We’ll keep you entertained over the holiday period with a week of fun art workshops inspired by artists such as Bridget Riley.

Storytelling week
26, 27, 28, 29, 30 October 2009: 1, 2 & 3pm

Explore The Rise of Women Artists exhibition with our fabulous storyteller. Discover more about the artworks on display and the stories of some of the artists featured. (suitable for over 7’s)

Something Wild … storytelling
14, 15 November 2009: 1, 2 & 3pm

Something Wild… at the Walker Art Gallery is our exciting children’s storybook.  Characters Keith and Ali have never visited an art gallery and our fun storytelling session follows them as they explore the gallery and some of the wonderful paintings and objects on display. (suitable for over 5’s)

Daily 10am- 4pm

Try our delicious new menu. A tasty range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. Children’s menu and highchairs available. Meals served until 4pm.

Walker shop
Offering a range of books, postcards, prints, jewellery and pocket-money priced souvenirs.
