Merchant Taylors’ Vitreum Gallery welcomes Liverpool Printmakers
Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School is delighted to welcome artists Paul Davidson, Sasha Spyrou (LJMU
School of Art) and Emma Gregory and Hannah Fray (Bluecoat Print studios) to their unique Vitreum
Art Gallery for the forthcoming celebration of Liverpool Printmaking. The exhibition at the Crosby
School will be a showcase of styles and processes demonstrating the advanced technical skills and
strong personal identity in the specialist field of each of the artists.
The show is a culmination of an artist /student exchange between some of Merseyside’s leading
educational institutions, which has seen pupils from Merchant Taylors’ visit the John Moores
University Print Department and the Bluecoat Studios to enjoy workshops and find inspiration from
the printmaking process.
The pupils have since created a series of etchings and silkscreen prints alongside artists Paul
Davidson and Sasha Spyrou and are looking forward to further inspiration from the exhibition. Sasha
is a Fellow in Printmaking at the School of Art and her zany illustrations of the signs of the zodiac
in particular are a big hit with the students. The show launches with a private view and buffet on
March 15th at 12.00- 1.00pm.
The Vitreum Arts Centre is entering its fourth year and, since opening, has built extensively on its
niche as the only space of its kind within a school in the North West. The gallery showcases the work
of local and national artists with an exhibition programme which complements the curriculum while
artists’ workshops and talks further extend the students’ learning.
Mr Gill, Director of Art, said: “The gallery enables all members of the school community to interact
with Art as part of their everyday experience and this ongoing exchange and dialogue with artists
and designers creates a highly charged creative learning environment.”
The exhibition will run from 15th March to 11th May 2012. Viewings by appointment only: please
