‘JERK’ is a solo performance by the award-winning and quite extraordinary Emma Serjeant of Casus Circus.

JERK is a breathtaking fusion of circus, dance and drama. An intimate journey of a woman on the edge, at the snapshot moment that her life explodes into a spiral of possibilities.

Performed by the extraordinary and awe-inspiring Emma Serjeant of Casus Circus, this is a tour de force of a solo show; awarded an Argus Angel award at the Brighton Fringe earlier this year.  These performances at the Black-E are the last chance to see this remarkable show in the UK in 2014.

Exploring the moment between life and death, when everything – and nothing – is simultaneously in reach, JERK is an utterly compelling show, weaving narrative, circus skills, storytelling and a dynamic display of strength and agility into an unforgettable moment that will resonate after the lights have faded.

“… proof that circus and theatre can, in the right hands, combine to become a powerful force.”

Total Theatre

“A performance at once challenging, disconcerting, brave and utterly compelling … Jerk is a piece of theatre that will stay with you long after the performance ends.”

The Argus

The evening opens with a short performance by The Black-E Youth Circus; the Black-E’s resident group who have performed at events throughout Liverpool.

The performance of JERK and the Youth Circus are dedicated to the life and works of Joan Littlewood, theatre director and visionary, on the 100thAnniversary of her birth in October 1914. Joan’s plans for a Fun Palace were an inspiration for the creation of the Black-E.
