9 October 2008 – 9 March 2009
The Many Faces of John Lennon’ exhibition comes to the Beatles Story from Hamburg’s ‘Center of Beat’ and features many famous photos of John Lennon and The Beatles
, including stunning images of the embryonic band as they played and partied on Hamburg’s notorious music scene of the early ’60s.
The photographs include Astrid Kirchherr’s iconic studies of Lennon, as well as archive shots from Peter Brüchmann, Max Scheler and the Star Club’s in-house photographer Günter Zint.
John Lennon’s black velvet jacket which he can be seen wearing in the ‘Imagine film, returns to the Beatles Story, courtesy of Liverpool born actor, Jack Marsden. Jack, who has recently been seen in ITV’s Heartbeat won the jacket at auction and was keen for the item to stay in Liverpool where it can be enjoyed by Beatles fans the world over.
Also on display will be one of John’s distinctive round necked stage suit, designed by tailor to the stars, Dougie Millings. This suit was worn by John on many occasions throughout 1963 and early 1964, before being donated to the first ever Madame Tussaud’s Beatles display in April 1964. Thought lost or destroyed for many years it was recently discovered in a warehouse in Acton, West London!
Jerry Goldman, Managing Director of the Beatles Story said: “With October 9th marking what would have been John’s birthday, it is only fitting that we celebrate his life with something special. This new exhibition features some stunning images of John and serves a fitting tribute to a legendary musician.”
‘The Many Faces of John Lennon’ will be on display at the Beatles Story until March 9th 2009.
