11 July – 9 August 2014
Tuesday– Saturdays 14.00 – 17.00
Potter’s Progress open day is on Friday 11 July 15.00 – 19.00. Visitors are welcome to come along and meet the students and talk about their work on display.
An inspiring exhibition featuring many of our students, who have been attending the Rathbone Studio pottery session, and for most this will be the first time they have exhibited their work.
Some of the students, who have been attending the pottery workshops for a while, have exhibited their work not only at the Studio but at other places in the Wirral including the Williamson Art Gallery’s open art exhibition.
The pottery workshops have been running since the Studio opened in May 2012, on the site of the historic Della Robbia pottery, and the number of students taking part in the sessions is growing week by week, showing the wealth of interest in pottery.
The Potter’s Progress exhibition shows the work of the student, some of who have never created a piece of artwork before. “I don’t think may people can handle clay without trying to model it into something unique. I am also amazed at the diversity of the work produced; just by giving people the technical know how, their only limitation is their own imagination. In some cases the pottery sessions have become a haven for people to escape the pressures of day to day life and find a real pleasure in creating their own artwork.” says Janet Holmes, the owner of the Rathbone Studio. “I am very proud that some of my students have gone on to exhibit at other venues and have also set up their own pottery studios at home.”
