Gallery Launch for Garston Cultural Village
The New Slaughterhouse gallery celebrates its re-opening with an evening reception on Friday, 11 April. Special guests will include the Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Maria Eagle MP and Phil Redmond, Deputy Chair of the Liverpool Culture Company.
The contemporary art gallery has moved to 50 St Mary’s Road, Garston and will re-open with an exclusive Adrian Henri retrospective. Adrian’s career encompassed painting, poetry, performance, song and playwriting. The Slaughterhouse exhibition brings together his interests, fascinations and loves, showcasing some of his better known works alongside a selection of drawings and prints. Broadcaster Roger Philips will give a tribute to Adrian and perform a poetry reading.
Previously at 73 St Mary’s Road, the Slaughterhouse has built a strong reputation as an innovative and exciting gallery and was recently listed as number 25 in the Liverpool Echo’s list of ‘100 reasons why Liverpool is so great’. The new premises allow greater exhibition space and there are plans for the venue to become a creative enterprise centre, promoting a range of locally produced arts and crafts under the banner ‘Made in Garston’.
