Fallout Factory: Spanish Pavillion – Paco Simón

unnamed3 July – 24 August 2014

Open Tuesday – Saturday 11.00 – 17.00

Private view 5 June at 17.00 – late

Specially commissioned as part of the International Festival for Business, Fallout Factory will play host to Spanish Pavilion, a new and exciting collaboration between Fallout Factory and overseas Spanish galleries.

Using the idea and concept of an international art fair, during which galleries show and sell their work, Fallout Factory will become the arena in which such galleries can display artists’ work from within their collections.   The artists, hailing from Zaragoza and Barcelona, will be representing some of the best contemporary artwork Spain has to offer.

3 – 24 August
Paco Simón’s recent paintings represent a new dimension of his thoughtful engagement with abstract painting. Questions of surface and transparency have always been of importance to his approach to abstraction. In the past, collage was embedded in the surface with such subtlety that it was difficult to distinguish the painted from the collage elements. These were devices by which he asserted the conceptual foundation for painting, the idea that painting is a form of thought. Painting represented a concern with surface, transparency and architecture; at the same time Simón challenged the architecture of the painting by destabilising it.
