German art and technology collective The Constitute have created a project that projects big bees onto big buildings in cities including Helsinki and Berlin.

Here in Liverpool we have been working with students and staff at The Academy of St Francis of Assisi and local beekeeper Andrew Hubbard (producer of Liverpool Postcode Honey) to care for a new beehive designed and built in the shape of Ropewalks Square, on the roof of the school.

The students have been filming the activity inside the hive since Spring and through the use of projection mapping technology, will use this footage to transfom Ropewalks Square into a giant beehive on the evening of 4 October as part of the national project Fun Palaces.

Projection mapping, is a relatively new technology which allows images and video to be projected onto objects, or buildings and visually “wrap” around them. You can see an example of how this project appeared when it was recently shown in Helsinki here:

Artist, producer, DJ – and beekeeper – Bioni Samp will be hosting a free family workshop in The Garden by LEAF at FACT between 2pm – 4pm..

Then, between 6pm – 8pm local beekeeper Andrew Hubbard will offer an opportunity to taste a selection of his Liverpool Postcode Honeys, all with unique flavours depending on the area’s pollen.

From 8pm-9pm Bioni Samp returns for a DJ set of bee inspired music in front of the Human Beeing projection out on the square.
