Dot Art: Aspects of Merseyside by John Kneen

4 July – 12 August 2011 at Dot Art, ‘Aspects of Merseyside’ by John Kneen

John Kneen paints his native Merseyside in his own distinctive, bold style – using geometric shapes and strong lines to striking graphic effect. Two series of work will be on show at the dot-art showroom this summer; depicting the seaside
resort of New Brighton, and iconic scenes from the Liverpool region as a whole.

John is a Liverpool based artist who graduated from Liverpool Moores University with a BA (Hons) Fine Art in 2004. He is also a qualified art teacher and has exhibited at various galleries in the city, as well as winning first prize in the “Spirit of Liverpool” competition organised by The Liverpool Echo to celebrate Liverpool’s 800th birthday.

The artist says: “My work is based on trying to capture the essence of the city environment, the excitement, the play of colour reflected in the office blocks, as well as the more mundane scenes. I have also produced a body of work based
on New Brighton, and am setting out to show the joy of a visit to the seaside, with the use of happy vibrant colours ”.

The exhibition is open to the public from 12-6pm Monday to Friday and by appointment, at dot-art, 16 Queen Avenue, Castle Street, Liverpool, L2 4TX.
