Stuart Irwin:
“I look for scenes that might otherwise go unnoticed and may not have been captured before. I am drawn to the ephemeral and trying to capture the passing moment in nature and all the paintings are first sketched in the open air before being refined later.”
“There is a strong emphasis on clouds within each composition to help convey something of the ‘ordinary’ – a brief moment in time. They always form an integral part of the work. The challenge of balancing the chiaroscuro, patterns of light and shade, and creating a realistic depiction of depth are the most enjoyable parts of the painting process.”
