Bridewell Studios & Gallery: Andrew Banks, The Act

25 – 27 July 2014

11am – 4pm

The Act paintings are dreamscapes of an external reality, a new world with possible connotations with current and past events. I am not aiming to represent history or an event but to create a new narrative for each viewer to interpret and expand on.

The paintings are inspired by musical theatre and films such as ‘Into the Wild’ and ‘Walk the Line’ which are based on true stories but facts are altered and idealised. This is my interest; by taking an image of an historic event from World War Two books and other history books or magazines and creating an idealised place of fantasy and surreal environment that still has connotations to contemporary life issues. The sense of movement of the home or living environment changing identity & creating new narratives is also an element within my work.
