Bluecoat Display Centre – Floral Lawn Collection

imageHelen Chatterton: Floral Lawn Collection
13 June – 1 August 2009
A new summer collection of textiles by Liverpool based designer Helen Chatterton to complement the recycling themed exhibition Junkshop Revolution. The floral lawn range which includes Tana lawn cotton dupion silk backed cushions & scarves, covered buttons and lavender bags was inspired by a collection of fabric which belonged to Helen’s mother.

Helen Chatterton
“I was brought up in the north-west cotton town of Bury, Lancashire, in a textile obsessed household.  My father had worked for the Cotton Board in Manchester, and my Scottish  mother was a very keen and talented knitter and dressmaker.

When my parents died in 1996, and it was time to clear out the house, I found the true extent of my Mother’s fabric collection, vast quantities of tweeds, woollens, cottons, linens, buttons and the best find of all an enormous quantity of Liberty Tana Lawn.

I started the collection as a tribute to my mother, who taught me everything I know about textiles, and to my father who taught me to love and care for items which have been well made.”
