28 September – 13 October
Launches 28 September, 12.00
October’s exhibition, “Pre-Loved, Re-Loved”, from Lark Lane-based community co-operative Arts Hub 47 features a diverse collection of work using pre-loved materials by South Liverpool artist Tina Leahey.
Tina, 52, has been a practicing artist for around twelve years. In 2001, while working in a local secondary school, she took the decision to sit her Art A-level, and she hasn’t looked back. Since studying as a mature student, the mum of three has gained a plethora of skills and experience, including batik and silk painting, embroidery and felting. Tina now has her own business running regular art workshops for both children and older people, while continuing to create her own artwork.
Tina explains “The exhibition incorporates a wealth of wonderful materials discarded by society. I have transformed pre-owned denim jeans into a Liverpool skyline, and also created newspaper cuttings relating to Michael Jackson into a skirt”.
The exhibition continues with artwork from other members of the co-operative in response to the “Pre-Loved, Re-Loved” theme. The Arts Hub 47 is staffed by volunteers and funded by sales of the work exhibited. The cooperative provides gallery and retail space enabling the hand-crafted works of local artists to be displayed, promoted and sold, and an environment for learning, sharing and networking.
