Artist statement for “Imaginary Landscapes”
My work represents my relationship and love of my local landscape, Hardcastle Crags. Each painting references a walk, which I have undertaken hundreds of times, through an environment where change is the only constant occurrence.
These paintings enable me to express the very essence and mood of fleeting moments in time and reflect the transient dominion that is the natural world. So, essentially, this body of work directly references memories of certain special places at given instants in time in order to recreate the encapsulated magnificence they possess, through the medium of acrylic paint on canvas. The splendour of Nature throughout the seasons and the abundance of shape, form and colour, in infinite variety, are the things I pay homage to.
