Permanent, full time post.

Teacher of Art & Design – Graphic Design specialism

This will be a demanding but rewarding opportunity for a well organised, committed and knowledgeable Graphic Design specialist to deliver AS and A2 Graphic Design (AQA) and other Art & Design subjects when the timetable demands. The current post holder, for example, delivered the 2D Units to the Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in 2014/15 and has also contributed to the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media.

The majority of students opt for AS and A2 Graphic Design wanting to develop their Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign skills, although other disciplines such as mixed media and photography have been included on the course in recent years with a high degree of success.

The Graphic Design course has evolved over the past two years in order to provide the students with more advanced digital skills as well as a comprehensive understanding of industry practice, a move that has been welcomed by visiting designers, Examiners, Apprenticeship providers and Universities alike. The move to an industry focused course has also seen a significant improvement for results, with AS high grades predicted at above 65% this year.

Background to Post

The College has an enthusiastic, well qualified and successful Art & Design & Technology team currently offering A Levels in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Product Design and Textile Design as well as a Level 2 Art & Design Diploma and a Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media.

The standards set by the team are very high and the response of the students is extremely positive. In consequence, course completion rates are high and pass rates have been exceptional.

The most recent Inspection Report for the College identified good/outstanding practice in Art & Design and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Rigorous monitoring and feedback systems have also consistently underpinned the achievements of students.
