Making sweet music in 08
· Culture Company launches search for young musical talent
· Performance slots at major summer events up for grabs
Aspiring young musicians are being given the chance to play at some of the summer’s biggest gigs.
The Liverpool Culture Company is looking for bands and individual artists aged between 14 and 25 to take part in Streetwaves 2008, which will see the city’s brightest musical talent battling it out at heats in each of Liverpool’s five neighbourhood areas before a panel of industry experts.
The ‘most ready’ acts from each heat will win an impressive prize package, including the chance to perform live at summer festivals across Merseyside – last year’s winners appeared at events including the Mathew Street Music Festival and Creamfields. They will also be invited to spend time with a top local producer in preparation for a day’s recording at Elevator Studios, and work with a design agency to create a professional logo and a range of T-shirts for their act.
“Streetwaves provides young people with valuable performance experience, and the chance to get advice from industry professionals.”
To apply for Streetwaves 2008, budding performers just need to download an application form from www.liverpool08.com/streetwaves, and return it to the address provided, along with a sample of their music. There are no genre restrictions and applications from across the musical spectrum are encouraged.
The deadline for entries in Thursday, May 1 2008.
Although Streetwaves Liverpool is only open to young people who live within the boundaries of Liverpool city council, all five neighbouring boroughs are also running versions of the competition for 2008. More information is available from www.liverpool08.com/streetwaves.
Streetwaves is organised by the Liverpool Culture Company in collaboration with MZONE, National Youth Music, The Dry Bar, The Liverpool Young Promoters, and all Merseyside boroughs.
