This is an exciting opportunity for a studio-based artist living and working in North West England to spend three months at the British School at Rome (early January to late March 2027).
The residency allows artists to focus on their practice, free from everyday pressures and distractions, with accommodation, meals and the support of BSR staff all provided. Artists live and work within the BSR’s vibrant international research community, against the backdrop of the splendid, eternally fascinating capital city of Rome.
The residency offers:
- A monthly stipend of £1500 for three months
- A travel grant of £500
- Full support by BSR Staff, including by our dedicated Visual Arts Residency and Program Curator
- Facilitated access to archives, sites, and museum collections not normally open to the public
- Weekly Italian language lessons on site
- 24/7 access to the BSR library
- Regular site visits, workshops, seminars, public events programme
- Opportunities to collaborate with local artists and groups and to participate in BSR Open Studios
Eligibility – Applicants must be:
- studio-based artists
- resident in North West England (Cumbria, Cheshire, Liverpool City Region, Greater Manchester, or Lancashire)
- at least two years out of art school/university education (whether BA, MA/MFA, or PhD) or equivalent.
