Our Music department is made up of a mix of self employed freelance tutors and employed permanent staff and they are not like most traditional educators, they are industry professionals, have been touring and/or session musicians, signed to major labels and record companies and are still active in the industry whilst turning their passion into a vocation.
The Head of Year Tutor role is ideal for someone who has a background in industry with a passion for live music and performance and can combine this with a passion for the growth and development of our students, imparting your knowledge, skills and experience to them. Job Requirements
- A degree in a related discipline or relevant leading edge industry experience.
- A teaching qualification or preparedness to work towards this.
- A minimum of a Grade C at GCSE (or equivalent) for Maths and English
- Industry experience as a touring and/or session musician.
- Excellent ICT (ideally a working knowledge of Google Classrooms), written and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to grow as an educator by enrolling for Assistant Fellow/Fellow status under the HEA Professional Standards Framework.
- Flexibility to travel, on occasion, to alternative campuses and performance locations.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Been previously signed to a major label or record company.
- Sufficient depth of specialist knowledge to develop teaching programmes and provide learning support within an HE environment.
- Knowledge of HE and an ability to employ a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
Job Responsibilities
- Delivering teaching material across BTEC and BA (Hons) specified modules within the Music Performance Course.
- Undertaking a range of academic administrative and pastoral support activities to ensure the department operates effectively and provides a supportive student learning environment.
- Helping to organise and facilitate rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, and performance opportunities relevant to the students’ development.
- Preparing students for assessment, including performances at internal and external venues.
- Developing and maintaining external networks and industry connections.
In this role there are still opportunities to be involved in with industry and performance as you’ll be required to:
- Work with the team to ensure the seamless execution of live music events, coordinate with performers and sound engineers.
- Supervise the technical setup and sound check for performances, working closely with sound engineers and
- and lighting crews.
