Community Rail Officer, South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership

South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership are seeking a part-time community rail officer to deliver projects that connect communities with their railway, with a focus on arts related activities. Part-Time Role (21hrs per week), Fixed-Term (1 year), Salary £30493.05 (pro-rata).

What is a Community Rail Partnership?

A community rail partnership is a partnership between Network Rail, train operating companies, local councils, other community organisations such as rail user groups, and other stakeholders such as local community/voluntary groups, charities and social enterprises.

Who are South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership?

South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership (SELCRP) aims to engage people with their railways, and to promote social inclusion & community cohesion, with a strong focus on arts related activities.

What is the role of the Community Rail Officer?

The community rail officer will work with SELCRP and other relevant partners and stakeholders, in contributing ideas, planning and delivering projects along the routes and stations covered by the CRP.

This role is part-time (21hrs per week) and relates specifically to the ‘Bridgewater Line’ from Atherton to Salford.

Key responsibilities include coordinating activities, building partnerships, implementing the CRP action plan, and developing programmes to enhance community involvement in railway and cultural activities.


Job Requirements

We are not asking for specific qualifications; we value a wide range of experience and achievements, which may (or may not) include academic qualifications.

We are seeking someone with experience of:

  • – Undertaking project work
  • – Developing creative initiatives, preferably community based
  • – Planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing projects
  • – Working with communities

It would be desirable for candidates to also have experience of:

  • – Completing funding applications
  • – Using social media
  • – Public speaking

Job Responsibilities

  • – To work with South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership and railway industry partners to develop and implement the projects set out in SELCRP’s Action Plan through a community based approach (specifically in the areas along the ‘Bridgewater Line’ – mainly Atherton, Walkden, Salford)
  • – To identify sources of funding, prepare funding bids to external bodies in support of particular projects, monitor project budgets and provide feedback to funders
  • – To promote community involvement at stations through station adoption initiatives, with an emphasis on social inclusion
  • – To promote the integration of rail services with other transport modes including local bus services, walking and cycling – working in partnership with relevant providers and local authorities

  • -To contribute towards promoting the importance of rail safety
