New Mills Festival Launches Call for Artists

New Mills Festival is excited to invite submissions from visual artists of all backgrounds to take part in the 2021 Art Trail.

The Art Trail has become a familiar and much loved part of the annual Festival around the lively High Peak town and this year takes place 10th to 26th September. Submissions are now open to artists wishing to take part in the two week long trail and will close at midnight on 11th June.

The Art Trail committee is also looking for proposals from visual artists for commissioned work. Proposals should respond to the themes of the Festival’s Home Farm project and further details can be found on the festival website. “Thanks to funding received from the National Lottery Community Fund through the Transition Network, we’re delighted to be able to commission artists for the trail this year. We’re looking for inspiring and thought provoking work which will be the centrepiece of the Trail,’ says art trail director Alison Vasey. “We’re pleased to be welcoming back Jimmy Cauty, whose latest installation ‘Estate’ will be part of this year’s festival’.

New Mills becomes a gallery during the Art Trail, with more than seventy local businesses hosting artists’ work in their windows and premises each year. It’s a special time in the town’s calendar, attracting artists locally, from across the country and even abroad. Local businesses are looking forward to hosting artists work in their shop windows and building on people’s appetite for exploring locally.

There are several options for artists to take part which range from a space in a shop window, to larger group exhibitions. The theme for the festival this year is “Home”. While this is not a requirement for entry to the Art Trail, proposals which respond to this topic will be welcomed.
