Media literacy workshop facilitator – Guardian Foundation Behind the Headlines programme, Media Literacy Ambassador project
Guardian Foundation Behind the Headlines programme is looking for a Media Literacy Workshop Facilitator. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced workshop facilitator with a track record in teaching and/or youth engagement and facilitation to deliver high quality learning experiences that develop critical media literacy and leadership skills of young people aged 14-18 who are taking part in our Media Literacy Ambassador programme in schools and colleges in Merseyside, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Welsh borders.
You will be passionate about inspiring young people about news and supporting them to develop critical media literacy skills. You will need a minimum of 1- 2 years previous experience of teaching and/or youth engagement experience combined with a wide knowledge of the challenges young people in the target age range face and a commitment to building young people’s confidence and leadership.
You will receive training in advance of delivering the project in schools.
Locations: Merseyside, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Welsh borders.
Length of project: October 2024 – July 2025, Up to 20 days between October 2024-July 2025
Contract type: Casual worker, October 2024 – July 2025
Shift rate: £305 for full day of onsite delivery (£152.50 per half day)
About You:
- Ability to teach and facilitate engaging and high quality educational experiences across secondary age ranges and learning needs with pupils who you will meet for the first time;
- A minimum of 1-2 years experience working with young people aged 14-18 year olds;
- A passion for giving young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to develop understanding, skills and confidence to navigate the media landscape in order to foster resilience;Â
- Excellent teaching, communication and presentation skills;
- Wide knowledge of secondary curriculum and current education initiatives;
- Understanding of the role and importance of news and media literacy in the curriculum;
- Initiative, ability to think on your feet and calmness under pressure;Â
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders;
- Willingness to travel extensively within the designated region.Â
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and good practice.
Advantageous
- Experience of delivering learning activities outside the classroom activities, in youth groups, informal settings or in a similar role;
- Driving licence;
