The successful candidate will lead the development of quarterly zines with young people aged 8-25 as part of the Beyond the Margins project, a three-year initiative providing creative, social, and emotional support to marginalised young people. This project uses zines and comics to empower participants, train peer mentors, and build a strong youth work community. The postholder will guide young people in sharing their lived experiences through creative expression, and facilitating workshops both online and in person. They will work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays, to meet the needs of participants.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. The delivery of Creative Development Workshops: Lead engaging creative workshops for young people aged 8-25, focusing on writing, illustration, and editorial processes. Sessions will be focused on guiding young people through brainstorming, drafting, and finalizing content for the Beyond the Margins zine.
  2.  1-2-1 Creative Mentoring: Provide tailored 1-2-1 mentorship to help young people refine their ideas, develop storytelling and artistic skills, and produce high-quality, publishable content. Offer editorial support and constructive feedback.
  3.  Curation of Beyond the Margins Zine: Take a leading role in overseeing the quarterly publication of the Beyond the Margins zine. Collaborate with Young Marginal Associates and young people to ensure content authentically represents young people’s voices while maintaining a professional standard.
  4. Editorial Guidance and Support: Work closely with CY’s Art Director to support young people in storytelling, illustration, and layout design. Provide technical guidance to help them translate creative ideas into finished zines.
  5.  Youth Work & Wellbeing Focus: Support young people, particularly those from marginalised backgrounds, in developing resilience, confidence, and self-expression through creative practice. Ensure sessions foster a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where young people can build social connections and improve their emotional well-being.
