NOW RECRUITING: TRUSTEES for Homotopia
Homotopia is looking to fill 2-3 roles on its Board with passion and skills to support the organisation.
Homotopia is the UK’s longest running LGBTQIA arts festival, based in Liverpool. We inspire and unite through excellent queer art and activism at a local, national and international level, presenting a yearly November festival, artist development, commissioning, a youth programme and public art campaign.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our committed Board forms an invaluable part of the organisation, ensuring that Homotopia is well run, that our staff team is supported and that the organisation is financially robust. To add to the talent and dedication of our existing Board, we are looking to recruit new Trustees.
The formal responsibilities of a Trustee are to:
- Work with the Executive Director to develop and maintain our vision, mission and values;
- Work with the Executive Director to create a firm strategic direction for the organisation, agreeing delivery objectives and evaluating performance against agreed targets;
- Act as an ambassador for Homotopia and our role in Liverpool and nationally, assisting in developing relationships with key stakeholders such as Arts Council England, and Culture Liverpool
- Be a sounding board for ideas and discussions, helping us to view our programme, goals and challenges from different perspectives;
- Ensure that we comply at all times with our governing documents and the law
- Ensure that suitable financial controls and systems for managing risk are in place and operating effectively;
- be an active member of the board of trustees, ensuring effective performance of the group as a whole;
- Protect, manage and adequately insure the property and funds of the charity;
- All Trustees should ensure that they are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities and take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for people who are passionate about the work we do, the programmes we produce and are passionate about LGBTQIA causes expressed through art.
We want to hear from candidates who feel they can fulfil the above criteria.
We are particularly looking for skills and experience in one of the following areas, but are happy to hear from candidates with different, yet relevant experience:
- Finance: you have a good understanding of financial management and responsibility
- Artistic: we are looking for practicing artists with knowledge of the LGBTQIA arts sector in the UK
- Arts Management: we are looking for individuals with good experience in arts management
- Young People: we are looking for young people who are passionate about our work and championing LGBTQIA rights

Remuneration
The role of Trustee is unremunerated, which means that we cannot pay you for your time.
Expenses
We can, however, pay you for reasonable travel and out of pocket expenses which would be reimbursed through submission of receipts.
Length of term
The length of a term for a Trustee is four years for one term, and a Trustee is permitted to serve up to two terms before retirement.
Time commitment
We host up to four full board meetings each year, and one board development day. They generally last 1 ½ to 2 hours and are hosted in a mixture of online and in person meetings. To date our board meetings have been held in the evening around 5.30pm.
We also host a number of online sub-committees including the fundraising and the diversity and inclusion sub-committee which each meet up to four times a year.
In addition to formal meetings Trustees are also expected to attend occasional public or private events, e.g. festival opening, press nights etc

- Confirm whether you can commit to attending at least four main board meetings per year (in person or on Zoom) plus a demonstrable willingness to attend Homotopia events
- Outline how your skills match up with at least one of the areas we are looking for
