Be Kinder – Art Trail Volunteer, National Trust

We are looking for volunteers to engage with the public, helping them to get the most of an art installation trail across an area of the beautiful Peak Dstirct, beginning at Edale train station.

As part of People’s Landscapes, five National Trust places are the focus of a national contemporary art project, collaborating with internationally renowned artist, Jeremy Deller. Each of these places is working with an additional artist to develop unique creative ideas relevant to their history of protest.

With the fight for access deeply embedded in the Peak District, musician Jarvis Cocker is working with the Dark Peak team to develop a creative programme inspired by the story of the 1932 Kinder Mass Trespass. A major part of this programme is the BE KINDER art trail.

The BE KINDER walking trail begins on the 6th July  – 15th September 10am – 16:00pm. The trail takes visitors 3 hours and is loosley based on a Mass Trespass route starting from the Penny Pot cafe next to Edale Train Station. We will be encouraging all visitors to come by public transport where possible.

We are looking for volunteers to familiarise themselves wit the artworks and talk to visitors on the trail about art and the landscape, helping visitors get the most out of the trail by having these conversations.

Volunteers can sign-up for as many or as few hours/days as they wish, fitting around their own schedule. There will be two introduction sessions to the volunteering role, one on Tuesday 18th June and a second one on either 2nd/3rd or 4th July, where we will be walking the route and viewing the art installations.

If you cannot make the 18th June intro session and would still like to volunteer, please do email us and we may be able to arrange and one-to-one intro session in Edale.
