The Making Rooms – Director, Blackburn with Darwen Council

Deadline: Friday 28 August 2015. Paid (£50k+) Full time

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a creative and entrepreneurial Director to be a part of and lead a new innovative project within the Blackburn with Darwen Borough employed by a Community Interest Company (C.I.C).

This new and exciting role offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits.

This is a balanced role between leadership, hands on operational support and forward planning in order to achieve the success of this highly visible project.

Blackburn has always been known as the heart of making since the industrial revolution and many inventions were made in this proud region. The Making Rooms, the name for the new home of creativity, innovation, and creative exchange, will be the next milestone for Blackburn and operate as a social enterprise headed by a C.I.C and will be a catalyst for makers and craftsmen.

The Making Rooms will primarily engage local creative entrepreneurs, students and graduates, creative industry partners and those who will engage in town centre activities and events. These will include residents, traders and visitors including cultural tourists and shoppers.

The Making Rooms will facilitate ideas with local artists and students to test ways to increase wider engagement with local residents.

The Making Rooms will include a fully equipped fabrication workshop (Fab Lab) that gives everyone, from small children to entrepreneurs and businesses, the capability to turn their ideas and concepts into reality. The aim is to make almost anything!

Although this role is not employed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, the Council will be supporting the recruitment and selection of the successful applicant.

Interviews to be held in September 2015 and include competency based assessments to be confirmed by way of an offer of interview.

Offers will be made to the successful applicant in October 2015 with potential start dates early in 2016.

Apply online at http://www.bwdjobs.co.uk/Jobs/Search.aspx and upload your current CV and a cover letter (this should be no more than 2 pages in length) demonstrating how you meet the person specification.
