We are keen to expand our team of Professional Register staff supporting the work of the Conservation department at Tate across the UK.
Staff on our Professional Register are engaged for short periods as required to help deliver our dynamic programme of displays and exhibitions, loans out, acquisitions and collection care.
We are looking for a range of Conservators, Technicians and Conservation Scientists to join our core teams in Conservation Science and Preventive Conservation; Paintings, Frames and Workshop; Paper and Photographs; Sculpture and Installation; and Time-based Media.
Together, we care for Tate’s art, archive and library collections of historic, modern and contemporary works at Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives and our central London sites (Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Stores)
The specialisms required range from materials such as textiles, organics, foodstuffs, metals, ceramic, glass, paper- print and drawings to ephemera, photography, paintings, frames, mechanisms and moving parts, digital and analogue technology, preventive conservation and packing of artworks. We are looking for:
• Conservators who either hold a recognised qualification in conservation or have equivalent relevant training and/or experience in the required area of expertise. You will be able to work independently on the preparation, condition checking, conservation and installation of artworks, or on preventive conservation tasks, and be able to communicate effectively, providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders.
• Technicians who hold a relevant qualification and/or have equivalent relevant training and/or experience in the field. You will be able to work independently or as part of a Conservation team, undertaking technical duties such as framing, mounting, packing 2D and 3D artworks, working with media and equipment both digital and analogue.
• Conservation scientists who hold relevant analytical or heritage science qualifications and have experience in analysing art and conservation materials, including using microscopy and/or FTIR or GCMS techniques. You will be able to communicate effectively, providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders.
