SpareParts Festival – Participation Officer Crewe
Are you passionate about helping to transform the cultural landscape in the North of England? SpareParts is a unique transport inspired festival created in Fleetwood. It has developed out of an innovative partnership between Fleetwood Festival of Transport, LeftCoast and Wyre Council.
After a successful strategic touring pilot in 2017, the project was further developed with Arts Council England, Crewe Town Council, Sandbach Transport Festival and Cheshire East Council to create SpareParts: Accelerate; a three-year touring programme reaching three festivals in 2018 and five transport festivals in the North West by 2020.
The Festival aims to use existing transport festivals as a platform to engage those who don’t usually see the arts as ‘for them’ using dynamic and exciting programming and participation.
SpareParts supports all the people involved in our projects to develop a greater sense of well-being and connectivity to the places that they live in. We are currently looking to recruit a dynamic person to be the Participation Officer in Crewe for SpareParts: Accelerate
Brief for SpareParts Participation Officer Crewe
The SpareParts Participation Officer will have a pivotal role in the growth and development of SpareParts audience development and inclusion programme in Crewe.
The Participation Officer will have four priorities for development in 2018:
• To manage the delivery of the SpareParts participation programme in Crewe in 2018 with support from the SpareParts Artistic Director, Crewe Town Council and Cheshire East Council.
• To achieve engagement targets and ensure evidence is recorded and final report submitted. 2
• To build greater sustainability with SpareParts and communities in Crewe.
• To support local partners inclusion in the SpareParts participatory parade. The successful candidate will report directly to the SpareParts Artistic Director and Events Officer in Crewe Town Council.
Key responsibilities include:
• To contribute to the vision of the SpareParts Participation programme in Crewe with the Artistic Director, Crewe Town Council and participating communities.
• To deliver a programme of engagement and community participation events in Crewe.
• To be the direct contact for coordinating activity times and liaising with lead artists/ facilitators, groups and venues.
• To spearhead consolidation of relationships with community groups including creation of links with Schools.
• Supporting the Artistic Director to arrange clear creative briefs and expected outcomes/targets for each activity.
• Lead on collecting data and reporting for the participation programme for annual/ ACE reports.
• To mentor and support participation lead in Sandbach Transport Festival with guidance from key partners in the SpareParts network.
• To link with participation contact in Fleetwood where necessary.
• To risk assess the participation activities with support from the Programme Manager.
• To work with the Artistic Director to ensure all artists adhere to the SpareParts safeguarding Policy and all facilitators/ artists have up to date DBS
• Help identify any site facilities we may need for participation activities (fencing, generators etc) and report to PM.
• Troubleshooting where necessary (supported by the AD).
• Support the get in, delivery and get out of the participation activities in Crewe.
• Contribute to the evaluation of SpareParts and make recommendations for its future development.
The ideal candidate should have:
• At least three year’s experience of managing professional community and participation activities/ events
• An extensive knowledge of safeguarding.
• Experience of working in the arts and cultural sector with both artists and members of the local community.
• Ability to work peripatetically and outside of usual office hours on a frequent basis.
• Experience of working with a variety of communities e.g. early years, young and vulnerable people.
• Experience of planning, organising and hosting community workshops, events etc.
• Experience of monitoring and evaluation, writing reports.
• Knowledge of Crewe and Cheshire East is desirable.
• An awareness of socially engaged arts practice and how that can be accessed by communities to create high quality and transformational creative projects.
• Good understanding of partnership work with art and non-art agencies for more joined up working.
This role is undertaken as a fixed term freelance contract from 12th March 2018 to 27th July 2018. It is offered for a fixed fee of £3000 (approximately 20 days). Hours may increase in the immediate run up to the festival.
