Young LAAF
Liverpool Arab Arts Festival (LAAF) is an excellent model of how the celebration of Arab arts and culture challenges prejudice and fosters understanding between people. The organisation was established in 1998, and is of great national significance as the UK’s longest running, most successful and sole annual Arab arts and cultural festival.
It is LAAFs mission to provide Arab arts and culture in Liverpool with an international reach, to bring diverse groups of people together, and to increase the public’s knowledge and understanding of Arab culture and its people.
LAAF was born out of Liverpool’s Arab community and it is our ambition to ensure community members can develop a sense of ownership and pride in the festival.  We believe young people should be central to LAAF’s future in terms of ensuring the festival remains current and relevant to younger age groups.
We are now looking to appoint a highly motivated and experience Project Manager to develop and deliver a new LAAF initiative Funded by Said Foundation Amal Project. The successful candidate will be accountable for reaching and engaging young People/adults of Arab/Muslim faith who are underrepresented in arts and creative industries.
Details of the position:
Salary: £25,000 (Pro rata)
Contract hours: average 16hrs per week – including weekends, evenings and flexible times during festival period.
Start:Â Â Immediate
End:    4th August – potential to increase duration if additional funds are secured.
Location: the Bluecoat and outreach Liverpool City Region.
Responsible to: Head of Festival
Responsible for: Sessional Staff and Arts Awards worker.
Role:
- Maintain and build upon relationship with project partners Said Foundation Amal Project, ensuring regular updated, meeting reporting deadlines and organising visits/observation of project delivery.
- Work with and develop relationships with external organisation to identify and engage young people.
- Develop, design and deliver workshops to enable young people to fully participate in the project.
- Ensure principles of participation are fully embedded into practice.
- Enable participants to research, plan and deliver a range of events which will run as part of LAAF 8-16 July 2017.
- Support young people in developing skill, confidence and ability to plan and organise events.
- Ensure project delivery and events are respectful of participants faith and cultural beliefs.
- Manage and work closely with LAAF Arts Awards Worker to maximise opportunities for young people to achieve Arts Awards.
- Recruit and manage sessional staff to support with project capacity.
- Work in collaboration with young people and LAAF marketing and PR to enable young people to develop their own project brand.
- Ensure project operates within a restricted budget.
- Work closely with LAAF senior management team to ensure events are relevant to culture, age and festival vision.
- Be responsible for supporting young people in booking/contracting artist and performers within agreed budget.
- Manage agreements with programmed artist, travel, accommodation, per diems and technical requirements.
- Work with participants, LAAF team, partners and local community to promote events and increase audience reach.
- Collate and record essential data for LAAF reporting to funders and stakeholders.
- Responsible for continual monitoring and evaluation of the project, reporting back to Said Foundation Amal Project and LAAF stakeholders.
- Ensure participants are central to the evaluation process.
- Compile end of project report with recommendations.
- Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
- Coordinate and manage social media platforms of promotion and communication with group.
- Ensure safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults embedding LAAFs policies and procedures are embedded into practice.
- To commit to Arts Council England Creative Case for Diversity and LAAF equal opportunities policy and procedures.
- Work with LAAF senior management team to identify and generate income from diverse funding streams.
- To uphold confidentiality and positively promote LAAF among diverse networks and partnerships.
- Any other duties and responsibilities to ensure the success of the project and support of LAAF 2017.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Minimum three years experience of working in the arts and culture industries.
- Minimum two year’s experience of working with young people and young adults experiencing isolation and exclusion.
- Knowledge of social and cultural barriers experienced by target group.
- Knowledge and understanding of Arab/Muslim culture and faith.
- Experienced in organising events, risk assessing and managing artist/performers.
- Proven track record in recruiting, engaging and sustaining attainment of young people in creative projects.
- Excellent team work skills.
- Experienced staff line/performance management.
- Minimum two year’s experience of developing projects from scratch through to successful completion.
- Supporting young people through accreditation process.
- Experienced in group and individual monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and people.
- Proven experience on enabling young people in reaching their true potential.
- Strong project management planning and implementation skills with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to network and to bring other partners on board to deliver
- Experience of managing budgets within agreed parameters.
- Must have IT literate skilled in Word, Excel and social media platforms.
- Ability to work under pressure meeting tight deadlines, delivering against agreed targets and operating in a highly charges environment leading up to and during festival period.
- Must be able to work with a great deal of independence, be a strong self-starter and finisher.
Desirable:
- Ability to speak Arabic
- Previous experience of working with Arab/Muslim communities
- Â Skills in film/documenting making
- Experienced in marketing and promotional strategies.
- Working with Festival/Large scale events.
- Previous experience of implementing and supporting young people in achieving Arts Awards.
