Hours: Full Time

The Liverpool Screen School seeks a highly motivated individual with a broad range of expertise and experience in the practical and theoretical aspects of Dance. The School forms part of LJMU’s Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies and offers undergraduate programmes in Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Film Studies, Journalism and Media Production, together with postgraduate courses in Dance, International Journalism, Writing and Screen Writing. The School prides itself on having developed a warm and friendly environment with a strong commitment to nurturing and supporting creativity, whilst offering first-class student support and excellent learning resources.
Dance is a long established discipline at LJMU and is currently based at the I M Marsh Campus. It has a growing research profile and reputation, with a focus on practice-led/practice-based research particularly in the areas of creative practice/emerging forms and dance and technology. Staff work to create and sustain a vibrant community for research and learning. They work with students in an active partnership where research informs the teaching, and, by working in partnership with students, staff are able to enrich students’ learning both within and beyond the curriculum in projects that are both outward facing and ensure engagement with a variety of local communities and partners.
The undergraduate degree is contemporary-based but other techniques are considered. It provides a thorough practical grounding in all aspects of dance practice in the areas of performing, creating and facilitating, supported by theoretical and contextual study. The postgraduate degree engages with established professionals and emerging dance artists/facilitators, and places research and critical dialogue as a dance artist at the heart of the learning experience. You will contribute to both areas. The School enjoys rich collaborative partnerships with the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts and with the Institute of the Arts Barcelona.
Dance is developing its strategic priorities in research, postgraduate provision, public engagement and enterprise activity. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in coordinating the move to facilities on the city centre campus. Reporting to the Director of Liverpool Screen School, you will have responsibility for the operational leadership of the programmes and the line-management of staff that work within the team. You will lead the enhancement of the current portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and programmes with collaborative partners, as well as inspiring new developments in programmes, international recruitment and partnerships, enterprise and research activity.
LJMU is proud of its many connections with local media and arts organisations, including The Everyman and Playhouse, the Unity theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, The Liverpool Philharmonic, The Liverpool Tate, Lime Pictures, Liverpool Film Office, ITV, the BBC and with the local dance agency Merseyside Dance initiative and many local, regional and national dance companies and independent dance artists. Liverpool boasts a lively and vibrant arts culture, having more theatres, art galleries and museums than any regional British city, making it an excellent place to teach, research, and study dance.
