The Museum of Science and Industry is one of the busiest and best loved museums in the North of England, with around 700,000 visitors each year. Located on the site of the world’s first inter-city railway station in Manchester, the Museum tells the story of where science met industry and the modern world began. The Museum is part of the Science Museum Group and has a rapidly growing reputation for its contemporary science programming, producing the annual Manchester Science Festival, staging major exhibitions and running science learning programmes that attract schools from across the North West. Our mission is to inspire all our visitors, including future scientists and inventors, with the story of how ideas can change the world, from the industrial revolution to today and beyond.

The Museum has recently transformed and launched a new Learning offer to deliver innovative life-enhancing learning experiences for schools, families and adults. We are currently recruiting for a Learning and Public Programmes Manager on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. You will have strong experience of on-going and long term operations management in a learning organisation, and you will be a pro-active and diligent manager. You will be a driven and quality-focused individual. You will have experience of managing both large teams and budgets effectively, as well as working with schools and audiences to embed best practise. Immediate priorities will include leading the development of a new offer for families with children aged 0-4, supporting and evaluating the new train experience and managing a team to deliver excellence in bringing to life our historic working machinery experiences.
