Purpose of Role
The main purpose of the role will be to provide day-to-day leadership and management of our Marketing & Communications team and activity, in the context of the impending departure of our current Head of Marketing. The role will also provide specialist marketing and communications input to support key projects and the ongoing work of the team, with a particular focus on press, PR and media relations.
About FACT
FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) is the UK’s leading media arts centre, based in Liverpool. It is a space where people, art and technology meet. We are proud to be part of the Arts Council’s National Portfolio and Liverpool City Council’s Arts and Cultural Investment Programme.
Last year FACT commissioned 49 new artworks and presented work in 21 locations around the world. Every year we work with over 8,500 people from Merseyside and beyond including: veterans, children, young adults and older people, to bring more communities into contact with art. Since 2003, FACT has welcomed nearly four million visitors, and every year over 300,000 people visit our three gallery spaces, café, bar and four cinema
screens (operated by our cinema partner, Picturehouse).
About the Marketing & Communications Team
(INTERIM) MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Working across all departments the Marketing & Communications team ensures maximum exposure for FACT and its partners, ensuring that our reputation is protected and that the company profile is raised and amplified at every possible opportunity – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The team structure comprises a Head of Marketing & Communications, Media & Communications Executive and two Marketing Coordinators.
We are in the process of recruiting a permanent replacement for our outgoing Head of Marketing & Communications, who leaves FACT on 25 August 2017. We aim to make an appointment by the end of September and anticipate a startdate of between October and December. Our Media & Communications Executive begins maternity leave in late September. A decision on whether to recruit additional cover will be deferred, and reviewed periodically.
Priorities for the team in the period will include planning, delivery and evaluation activity relating to the following key projects (and others as required):
• The New Observatory exhibition (ongoing campaign to 3 Oct)
• Freshers’ week promotional campaign (Sept)
• LCR Activate launch (3 Oct), recruitment and events (ongoing)
• Design & Desire (working title – pop-up 3-D printing show) – during Oct
• Refuge season featuring Devotional Document (part 3) exhibition by Wu Tsang – opens 26 Oct
• FACT Brand Refresh and New Website Development (Oct – April)
• Liverpool Film Night (Nov)
• Future Aleppo (AR installation) (Nov TBC)
• States of Play (opens March 2018)
• FACT 15th Birthday (April 2018)

Key responsibilities of the role:
− Manage the ongoing implementation of FACT’s Audience Development Plan and Marketing & Communications Strategy to grow and diversify our audiences and service users, working closely with colleagues and partners to align all activity with our artistic programme and wider corporate vision, aims, objectives and KPI’s
− Gather, analyze and utilize relevant audience, customer and stakeholder data – including the ongoing development and adoption of Audience Finder and Salesforce
− Contribute to funding applications, board reports, funder reports and other monitoring, evaluation and reporting activity as required
− Contribute (if required) to the development and implementation of a refreshed brand identity and new online platform for FACT working closely with our appointed suppliers
− Ensure the FACT brand, core messages and corporate identity are consistently and effectively deployed across all marketing and  (INTERIM) MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER communications materials, channels and platforms – including throughout the FACT building and website, ensuring a high-quality visitor experience is maintained at all times
− Oversee and support the development and implementation of bespoke, proactive and effective local, national and international marketing campaigns for all elements of FACT’s programme and service offer, including design and print, press and PR, social and media partnership development
− Work closely with the Programme Team to promote FACT’s artistic programme appropriately and effectively to a diverse range of audiences and stakeholders in line with our Audience Development strategy
− Work closely with the Business Development Team to promote FACT’s events, hires, video production, talent development, retail offer and other products and services to both consumer and B2B markets
− Work closely with the Fundraising & Development Team to support all fundraising and investor development activity, including reporting and stakeholder communications
− Work closely with the Innovation team to support the promotion of FACT’s research & innovation activity, including support for digital and creative SME product and service development through the £5m 3-year LCR Activate project, delivered in partnership with LJMU and Liverpool LEP
− Work closely with our building partners, Picturehouse and LEAF, to promote the FACT cinema programme, membership scheme, bar and cafe
− Manage two full-time Marketing Coordinators and assist in supervising interns, apprentices and work placements within the Marketing and Communications department
− Manage FACT’s Marketing budget and other related resources
− Develop peer group and influential networks for FACT working closely with the Board, Director, Executive Director and Senior Management Team
− Represent FACT on relevant stakeholder groups (e.g. LARC, Ropewalks) and at relevant events and conferences

Person Specification
Essential
− Significant experience in Marketing & Communications roles in the cultural and creative sector, ideally including visual arts and new media
− Experience of communicating effectively with diverse audiences and an ability to tailor messages to a wide range of different demographics
− Demonstrable track-record in developing and implementing successful marketing and communications strategies, plans and campaigns
− Experience of managing people, budgets and resources
− Good knowledge of the press and media landscape in the UK and internationally, including strong personal networks in both the mainstream and sector-specific media
Desirable
− Experience and understanding of contemporary marketing developments including relevant legislation (e.g. data protection, intellectual property) and the effective use of digital technology and social media
− An existing working knowledge of FACT, our audiences, our key partners and stakeholders, our offer and the context in which we operate
− Excellent research and analysis skills
− A high level of computer literacy including knowledge of Mac systems Behavioral Competencies
− A positive disposition with the ability to stay motivated and focused under pressure
− Ability to think creatively and laterally and to work flexibly and collaboratively, while retaining a clear focus on achieving individual and corporate objectives
− Ability to deal with people of all levels of seniority and background
− Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the will to take ownership of improving communications throughout the organisation
− Strong leadership and management skills
