Art in Liverpool are hiring an Artist Liaison to support the development of Independents Biennial 2020. Independents Biennial is a festival focussed on showing the best of Merseyside. Over the next twelve months our focus is to widen and diversify the artists we work with. Thanks to Arts Council England’s Project Grants, we have a budget for an organisation or individual to work with us as a dedicated part of the project.

The post is funded by Arts Council England for the first twelve months, with potential to extend.

In 2018 we produced the largest edition of Independents Biennial in the festival’s history, with more artists and more venues since the festival’s foundation over 20 years ago. It was also the most diverse edition of the festival where the artist list was concerned, but we found many ways to improve.

The key targets are to widen participation from BAME artists, artists in receipt of income support, and/or from working class backgrounds, and artists at polar opposite ends of their career.

The successful candidate must have an exceptional familiarity with visual arts in Merseyside, have an existing network of artists to build on, and be willing to work flexible hours where necessary. A full person specification is below:

  • Knowledge or experience of widening participation in the arts
