Festival Producer (Now Northwich) Cheshire Dance

Deadline: November 13th, 2023

Cheshire Dance is recruiting! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced freelance Festival Producer to come take the reins of an enormously successful event, our International Dance and Street Arts Festival, Now Northwich, due to take place in April 2024 and then help us prepare for the next festival in April 2025 which could mean re-initiating the contract.  Now in its fourth iteration, Now Northwich has in previous years attracted annual audiences in excess of 26,000 people and is a signature event for Northwich as a destination market town.

In 2018 Cheshire Dance initiated Now Northwich, an annual, one-day International Dance and Street Arts Festival with strong local engagement linked to the organisation’s wider programme.  Now Northwich is supported by a local partnership including Cheshire West and Chester Council, Northwich Town Council, Barons Quay Retail and Northwich BID, with additional sponsorship and lots of volunteers.  All previous editions have been supported by Arts Council England Project Grants.

For April 2024 we have secured funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund – UKSPF (through Cheshire West and Chester Council) and other local partners, enabling us to confirm Now Northwich Festival for next year.  Plans are in place to deliver a full one day festival with a day-time programme of professional touring work, a co-created community commission, large scale evening piece and a Young Producers programme.  An example of the last festival can be viewed here to give a sense of scale.

An Arts Council England Project Grant application has been submitted which would enable us to deliver this fuller one day festival or a smaller edition without ACE funding. The outcome of the ACE Project Grant is due on 18th December and thus the scale of the Festival Producer’s role will be confirmed at this point, with the role itself beginning in January.  We recognise that this is not an ideal situation and that freelance workers are often managing varied workloads, however, the successful applicant will need to be able to take on the role at either scale outlined below (see Contract Fee/Value).

UKSPF funding has already been secured for 2025.  There is potential therefore, for the Festival Producer’s contract to be re-initiated for the 2025 event.  This contract includes evaluation of the 2024 event as well as supporting the programming and ACE application for the April 2025 event.
