We aim to deliver a high quality, positive and rewarding museum experience that will encourage children, young people and adults to gain the knowledge and skills they need to develop their educational attainment, cultural awareness and life chances.
Main Activities
Reporting to the Senior Education Manager (Waterfront) you will:
- Provide direction and management to colleagues, maximising flexibility of resources to ensure the most efficient use of staff, budget, space and technical resources; including on and offsite work programmes, rosters, discipline, training, welfare, managing absence, performance review and annual appraisals.
- Contribute to the management and development of the department by attending departmental meetings and giving advice to senior staff, orally and through written reports.
- Consult with key partners, audiences and stakeholders to develop diverse education and community provision which are inclusive and accessible to all visitors.
- Manage, motivate and organise the efficient use of resources to deliver education programmes within your area of responsibility, applying leading standards in customer care, access and inclusion, interpretation and technology.
- Deliver timed educational activities at least 3 days/week.
- Ensure that Payband 4 (Team Leader) and Payband 3 (Demonstrator) staff work to deliver a minimum of 4 days timed educational activities per week
- Work with colleagues to maximise the Education and Community offer across NML to enable best value for money.
- When required, seek out and negotiate external sources of programme content, building partnerships with content providers.
- Advise the Senior Education Manager on all financial planning for the section and be responsible for the section budget, allocating resources to optimise performance.
Ensure that all financial transactions are entered on the EV Finance Database and reported on a quarterly basis. - Ensure that visitor statistics for your area are collected and recorded on to the centralised booking system and provide advice and recommendations to senior colleagues on actions to sustain and improve performance.
- Contribute to museum, gallery and exhibition development of programmes to ensure that learning is pivotal, and develop programmes and resources as appropriate to support their interpretation.
- Evaluate team performance through agreed methodologies to help inform the development of the education programme.
- Ensure the security of the collections while they are under the care of the Education division.
- Provide information through formal reporting mechanisms required for Education and Visitor Services Management Team and other internal and external reports.
- Work closely with colleagues across NML to ensure a seamless experience and consistent standards are delivered for all visitors Improve performance through undertaking continuing professional development.
- Assist with the supervision of volunteers and work placement students, undertaking periodic appraisal and facilitating their training in association with IS staff and NML’s Volunteer Coordinator.
