Director of the Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University

Situated in one of the UK’s best-connected and most culturally vibrant cities, the Manchester School of Art plays a central role in the region’s culture and creativity. Since it was established almost 200 years ago, the School of Art has been at the forefront of art and design education and research, providing a space where experimentation and collaboration across disciplines is nurtured and encouraged.

The School is a key part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University, which combines an exciting mix of disciplines that, through research and education, are changing lives. The School of Art is in the Complete University Guide’s Top 10 for Art and Design, ranking 7th in the country last year. We are investing in our facilities and infrastructure, including an exciting £35m new building for the School of Digital Arts. We are passionate about creating innovative teaching and research spaces where we will inspire the next generation.

The new Director of the School of Art will forge and develop a wide range of strategic partnerships across the Arts and wider Creative Industries on behalf of the School and University. They will be able to articulate a compelling direction for the School and wider University that will leverage our impressive cultural assets, raise our profile with a variety of stakeholders, and enable us to extend our reach and impact to a range of diverse communities – locally, nationally and internationally.

Successful candidates will have a passion for and understanding of art school education, strong ambassadorial and networking skills, and extensive leadership experience in the arts or have a strong academic record and standing in teaching, research or knowledge exchange.
