Director, Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA)

The Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) has announced an open call to recruit a new Director to lead the organisation as it enters a period of revitalisation and growth ahead of reopening to the public in 2022.

Based in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art has supported art and artists of Chinese, East and Southeast Asian heritage for over thirty years. Its galleries have been closed to the public since Covid-19 restrictions came into force in March 2020.

In August 2021 an independent audit commissioned by CFCCA’s Board revealed a number of management and structural weaknesses which the organisation is now addressing through a full re-examination of its vision, mission and values and the creation of a clear plan of action to embed genuine and long-lasting change so that it can better serve its communities.

Thanh Sinden has been appointed as Interim Executive Director and Nick Buckley Wood has been named as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees, both with immediate effect. Zoe Dunbar, who led the organisation for seven years has stepped down from her role.

Alongside the open call for a new Director, CFCCA is recruiting a new Community Development and Engagement Manager to lead delivery of the organisation’s community engagement programme and contribute to its strategic development. The organisation is also seeking new trustees, including a treasurer, for its Board. Further information for all of the new opportunities can be found at cfcca.org.uk.

Thanh Sinden said: “We are very pleased to be able to announce this open call as the CFCCA prepares to embrace bold and positive changes. As interim Executive Director my immediate priorities are building organisational capacity and undertaking strategic planning for this much-needed revitalisation.”

Nick Buckley Wood said: “This has been a difficult time for the CFCCA but we have learned vital lessons that will prepare us for a much stronger future. I am looking forward to bringing new trustees on board as we prepare to open to the public next year.”
