The Reader has ambitious plans for developing a national network of shared reading groups across the UK. This role is responsible for securing income and partnerships to help make this happen, in line with The Reader’s Business plan. The Reader has a new five year development strategy which sets out to achieve a balanced income profile across charitable trusts, individual giving, social enterprise and commissioned income. This role is focused on growing our commissioned income and building on our successful track record of working with public sector partners including NHS Trusts, CCGs, Local authorities and libraries. We have developed a range of products and services, ranging from training courses to partnership models which enable our commissioners to embed shared reading groups in their services/communities.
We’re looking for an experienced Development Manager who is motivated about selling the work of The Reader. You’ll be responsible for cultivating and managing a pipeline of prospects to achieve an agreed income target from shared reading training and commissions. We’re looking for someone who is a strong relationship builder and networker, who and can spot and develop opportunities and steer them from cold to close. You’ll be able to demonstrate an understanding of public sector commissioning and be able to translate The Reader’s offer to them effectively, in person and in writing. You’ll need to be able to work autonomously yet also collaborate effectively with colleagues across the team to shape opportunities. We’re looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated and flexible – willing to get involved with a range of tasks as our strategy evolves – and be excited about that opportunity.
