Main Purpose of the Post

As the Designer you will be working within a collaborative environment to help develop and implement conceptual campaigns and visual directions, as well as creating and artworking MIF17 show specific and generic designs. You will provide design leadership and assist in the management of workflow, and have an understanding of branding and creating brands that are relevant to the brief and target audience.


The main responsibilities will be:

  • Working with MIF’s brand guidelines for the 2017 visual identity to develop all marketing collateral
  • To take ownership of projects and manage the creative development of a wide range  of designed products in line with MIF standards and in response to a design brief, across printed and digital interfaces
  • To craft design solutions to communicate key messages with high visual impact
  • To be responsible for the quality and presentation of creative work
  • To provide creative direction and guidance to the design team to enable them to deliver successful projects that answer the brief
  • To manage the Junior Designer
  • To be responsible for researching and briefing external design suppliers
  • To work as a team with the copywriters
  • To work with the Marketing Team in briefing photographers
  • To present concepts to key members of staff and MIF advisors for approval



  • 5 to 6 years professional experience
  • Fully proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong typography and artworking skills, meticulous eye for detail
  • Management experience
  • Organised, self-motivated and able to deliver multiple simultaneous projects
  • Willingness to support the Festival’s commitment to equal opportunities

  • Availability for both evening and weekend events, when necessary
  • An interest in and empathy with the objectives of the Manchester International Festival
  • The organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Good understanding of processes and systems


  • Experience of working in a marketing or press department
  • Experience of working in an arts environment
  • Interest in arts and culture
