Organisation Overview
Pagoda Arts is a charitable organisation promoting Chinese Culture in Merseyside. We would like to train more Arts workers for our future work and are looking for enthusiastic young people, who are creative and self-motivated to join our team. As a cultural worker, you will help to enrich the lives of local communities by planning, promoting and running participatory events, exhibitions and projects to engage individuals and groups of all ages.

Personal Requirements
A reliable, responsible, accountable, and self-motivated young person is required to join the Pagoda Arts team. We need an empathic communicator, sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel within the Northwest region. Someone who is keen for new experiences, able to get on with others and be a team-player.

You need to have a good understanding of various Chinese music and musical instruments.

Working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. You must be willing to work extended hours on occasions when required.

Job Summary
During the internship, you will be:

  • helping to organise and publicise events and exhibitions;
  • assisting in the running of the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra;
  • maintaining Chinese musical instrument;
  • running school workshops,
  • networking with overseas Chinese students;
  • arranging and planning a variety of arts and fitness programme for the local community covering all ages.

Duties and Responsibilities
This six month’ internship offers the opportunity for people interested in working in Community Arts or related fields to gain experience and insight into the running of a dynamic community arts centre. In your role you will be expected to:

1. Assist the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra – (during weekend, school holidays Play Scheme Activities)

2. Repair and maintain various Chinese Musical instruments;

3. Communicate with people using the centre – including employees and external clients.

4. Deal with people at all levels regarding specific projects as well as general inquiries.

5. Assist with general office tasks such as answering telephones, filing, sorting post etc.

6. Support the organisation on special events and trips (ie: Christmas and Easter parties, cultural events etc.) through research and planning.

7. Design and support activities to ensure that PA is reaching particularly older people and children.

8. Research, design and teach/facilitate at least one workshop or group (optional).

9. Collaborate with the Director to ensure the high quality of PA services (collecting member feedback on classes, suggesting ways to improve reception of members etc.)

Training and Support
– Full induction training for the systems, operations and organisational ethos of Pagoda Arts.
– Periodic meetings with the Director to ensure you are being well supported and the role is meeting your needs wherever possible.
– At least one training course/workshop (more depending on availability). Courses on offer include: CV/Cover Letter Writing, Health and Safety, food hygiene and First Aid.

Other Information
People doing an internship here will be on national minimum wage
Dates: 18 July 2016- 16 January 2017.
30 Hours per week, working on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Deadline for CV and cover letter is 30th June.
