Do you have the passion to care for museum collection objects?
Across Science Museum Group, our conservation specialists are committed to caring for our unique objects and exhibitions, helping to deliver our group vision of creating a more accessible and sustainable collection.
The Science and Industry Museum is embarking on an exciting masterplan to redevelop buildings and galleries across the historic site. This means moving parts of the collection from Manchester to the Group’s National Collections Centre at Wroughton in Wiltshire for safekeeping during redevelopment.
In order to support this project, we are looking for a Conservator to join us on a 6-month fixed-term basis. In this role, you will plan and deliver condition reporting, interventive conservation, movement, packing, and storage of objects from the collections storage using best practice to meet strategic and statutory requirements.
Working with a diverse project team, you’ll participate in safely caring for our collection to ensure it remains accessible and open for all.
Joining us, you will bring experience of conservation and object handling, championing conservation positively and with enthusiasm. You will be able to prioritise your own workload and work diligently to assess and care for our historic objects.
You will be offered excellent benefits including 24 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, the ability to join our excellent, contributory, Greater Manchester Pension Scheme, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
