Are you a good communicator with exceptional attention to detail looking to start a career in the museum, gallery and heritage sector? This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Collections Management Assistant to gain skills in a multi-site organisation.

You’ll assist the Curatorial team at Lakeland Arts in the administration of internal long-term loans and external loans, working with the Exhibitions and Collections Technical Coordinator to manage our collections stores and logistics, and work with our Assistant Curator to lead a group of volunteers in improving our documentation, audit and care for the collection. You’ll also get hands-on overseeing our libraries, archives and will have the opportunity to work with other organisations and researchers.

 

Key responsibilities

Documentation

  • To manage all collections documentation to SPECTRUM standards working to collections care best practice in
  • To maintain and manage the collections database (MODES), ensuring that data is consistent and up-to-date
  • To maintain the accession register and create back-up copies of all documentation
  • To survey existing documentation in order to reconcile documentation with collections objects
  • To manage the administration of all loans in and out of the collections in accordance with Lakeland Arts’ procedure, and in consultation with the Curatorial team
  • To compile annual insurance adjustments for collections and loans, and to liaise with Lakeland Arts insurers
  • To respond to general enquiries and administer image reproduction requests

Collection care

  • To handle and move collection objects
  • To contribute to cleaning and environmental monitoring schedules of Lakeland Arts’ buildings and storage areas
  • To apply knowledge of preventative conservation and contributing, at times, to non-invasive cleaning of stored and displayed objects
  • To supervise researchers on site
