The Liverpool Collection
dot-art Gallery, until 13th January 2018
Words, Kevin Symes
Hidden away in a charming Diagon Alley-esque side street is dot-art Gallery, who have just opened their newest exhibition, The Liverpool Collection, focusing on the iconic structures that make up Liverpool and its surrounding areas.
I was greeted with mulled wine and the bubbly gallery owners, and the artwork displayed is just as vibrant. From photographic prints to abstract collages, each piece portrays this brilliant city in a new way.
The exhibition boasts artwork from 21 local artists, with complimentary mince pies to feast on whilst you take a look around at what is on offer. Every picture is for sale, so if you have a friend that has since moved away from the city, or if you are looking for a Christmas gift for a loved one, any of these originals would be perfect, with prints beginning at £30.
One of the more eye-catching pieces was by local artist Olga Snell, who has digitally altered iconic Liverpool sights into beautiful mandalas; an obvious echo to the artwork surrounding Buddhism. An interesting take on the Liver Building.
From the Anglican Cathedral to the Radio City tower, everything you can think of has been interpreted here, and a few paintings of Sefton Park which stood out.
If you’re looking for that perfect trinket that is completely unique, the gallery is also selling bespoke baubles, which begin at £4.50.
It fills me with immense pride to see our city displayed like this. Being one of the most photographed cities in the UK is a testament to how beautiful it really is. Get yourself down here while this collection is showing, we are sure you will fall completely in love with something.
The Liverpool Collection is showing now at dot-art Gallery, 14 Queen Avenue, Castle Street and is on display until 13th January. For more information, visit dot-art.co.uk
