On Coping: A Reading for Liverpool is a project by Auto Italia in collaboration with Lauren Barnes and The Royal Standard, bringing together artists from around the world to create a shared space for exchange and support. Part residency, part research, and part public programme – the project takes its starting point from the emotional alliances and collective strategies that enable our artistic work to take place in the face of increasingly unforgiving social and economic pressures.
We went to the Private View / Launch of this show at the Royal Standard on Saturday. After a pleasant contemplation of the installations and videos we watched/listened to the performance of Blue Sun by Marleen Boschen and Charles Pryor with several of the artists taking turns in reading parts of the narrative.
Earlier in the day there had been a workshop at which people were encouraged to clean their electronic devices using embroidered cleaning cloths and deleting files after taking a screenshot of them. The previous afternoon another workshop involved participants making things with clay (without any guidance or instruction) whilst watching a video. The outcomes of these workshops are included in the exhibition, care is needed to avoid stepping on the small clay objects which litter the floor.
There were other events during the weekend and the exhibition continues until Sunday 2 August 2015
