Yesterday we went to re-visit ‘Dream’ on the former Sutton Colliery site in St Helens. It was a warm, sunny day and brought back fond memories of the last time we were here for the launch event on 31 May 2009.
There were thousands of people at the launch. Yesterday there were far fewer, of course, but still apparently very popular with local families, dog-walkers and occasional tourists like us. The sculpture still looks awesome especially as you reach the top of the hill and it finally comes into full view for the first time.
It’s an easy 10 minute walk up the hill from the car park at King George V playing fields.
The sculpture titled ‘Dream’ was conceived and designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. It is 20 metres tall and made of concrete and Spanish dolomite which makes it look white and reflects the light.
