It was very relaxing sitting in a little wooden boat listening to Jonathan Raisin’s gentle piano music. Suspended over the tiny pond in the middle of the ‘Bombed Out Church’ aka St Luke’s ‘The Leaving‘ installation by Jonathan (UK) along with Ehsan Vaziri (Iran) leaves the space after Wednesday 15 July 2015 (open 12.00 – 18.00 on Wednesday).
‘A home-made boat built from pallets and hope and a song of the Sea. Stories- told and imagined, of a river to carry us to safety and the hope of welcome on another shore. What if the town that we think of as home became broken? Where might we go?’
Also worth the 2 minute walk from there to 2 Roscoe St, where you’ll find the Well art space and cafe for more of the Festival 31 artworks. http://www.thewell-liverpool.org/
Festival 31
Liverpool’s official festival celebrating arts & culture from refugee communities and creating discourse around the refugee experience. FESTIVAL 31 brings together refugees, wider communities, individuals, grassroots, small and larger organisations for a 31 day experience across the whole city from 14th June – 15th July 2015.
This year, the festival is supporting a commissioned artists programme funded by Arts Council England. Locally based artists, writers and performers; Sarah Nicholson, Francicso Carrasco, Jonathan Raisin and Darren Guy have been working with Kurdish artists Rania Alkhllo and Nairouz Habash (Syria), Ehsan Vaziri (Iran) and Reagan Tesfemariam (Eritrea) to create a body of collaborative work that illuminates the refugee experience for wider local audiences.
