We are spreading the word to artists who may wish to apply to series 11 of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year and series 10 of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year competitions.
Every year each show gets around two thousand entries, but we’re always keen to raise awareness to ensure a diverse range of applications from people who may not have come across the competition before. As such we would be extremely grateful if you could please share this information with artists you feel may be interested in applying.
Artists enter with a self-portrait or a landscape painting and those selected to take part in the heats have four hours to paint either a celebrity sitter or a specific landscape within the UK.
The Portrait competition heats will be filmed at the Battersea Arts Centre in London in March 2024. The Landscape competition heats will be filmed over the summer of 2024.
We’re very proud of the fact that beyond an entertaining television series, the programme has become a reputable art competition in its own right with participants selected solely on the quality of their submission painting. The programme’s success depends on the standard of the art produced and is an intelligent, fascinating examination of the artistic process.
The prize is a £10,000 commission to paint a work for a major British institution.
