Visual artist required to deliver workshops about pregnancy loss, Public Programmes Team – Greater Manchester

We are looking for an experienced visual artist to develop and deliver a series of workshops in Greater Manchester for people who have experienced a pregnancy complication or loss.

This commission is part of a project to increase public understanding of pregnancy problems/loss and related research. The artist will work collaboratively with health researchers and people with direct experience of pregnancy complication or loss, to develop and run a series of workshops that will ultimately create artistic pieces reflecting participants’ experiences. The artwork will be displayed in a public exhibition (Manchester early 2019) and also made available in a digital format.  

Artist criteria

Significant experience of creating visual artwork or creative pieces e.g. drawings, sculpture

Experience of working with sensitive topic areas or vulnerable groups

Skilled at designing and delivering workshops using visual arts practices

Experience of curating workshop outputs into an exhibition

Ability to work collaboratively with the public and other creative partners

Willingness to engage in the documentation of the project through photography/video/audio

Interest in health/research

Available to deliver project between May 2018 – February 2019

Ideally based in North West of England

Key considerations

Provoking interest in pregnancy problems/loss and research, whilst being sensitive to the experiences of those involved.

Will involve spending time in project locations in Manchester

Project team will facilitate links with researchers and public

We are currently applying for funding this project. Outline budget £2.5-3k (Inc. VAT) including artist time, expenses and materials

The work will be commissioned by the Public Programmes Team, a specialist unit advising on and delivering patient and public involvement and engagement in the UK. We are not-for profit, hosted by Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.
