Paid Opportunity: Call Out for Artist Submissions, SICK! Festival

  • 2nd September 2019
  • Part time
  • Paid (£10k-15k pro rata)
  • Steve Vickers steve@sickfestival.com

We are looking for small scale performances, installations and interventions to form part of TAKEOVER, the finale of this year’s SICK! Festival on 5th October.

Occupying a range of spaces throughout Manchester’s legendary NIAMOS Centre, TAKEOVERconfronts the recent YouGov statistic that 18% of young people in the UK believe ‘life is not really worth living’ and asks makes life worth living for young people today. We are seeking bold, innovative works by young artists (under 30 years) that respond to this theme.

From the grand auditorium to hidden studio spaces, TAKEOVER presents a vibrant evening of performances, provocations, artistic interventions and immersive experiences, developed with Manchester Metropolitan University as part of the development of the Greater Manchester Living Youth Charter.

Submissions can be within any artistic format, with minimal tech requirements. Performances should last no longer than 15 minutes (unless they are interventions or durational pieces).

SICK! Festival
SICK!  Festival confronts the physical, mental & public health challenges that we face in everyday life.  We deliver a high profile biennial festival, weaving in perspectives from researchers, clinical practitioners, public health professionals, charities, and people and communities with lived experience of the social and health issues we explore.  Themes are explored through many art forms, including dance, theatre and public installation, and through lectures and debates.  SICK!  takes the conversation into the heart of communities where the subjects matter most.  The issues   we examine are difficult.  They are also deeply personal and often kept away from public debate.  We exist to change that.

Fee: £200 (inclusive of all travel, accommodation and materials)

Requirements:

  • Available for production meeting (by skype if necessary) with the delivery team ahead of the event; date – TBC
  • Available for rehearsals and performance on 05/10/19

If you are interested in submitting work for consideration please send an outline of the idea, technical requirements and a summary of your artistic practice and experience (no more than 2 pages) to: steve@SICKFestival.com

Deadline: Monday 2nd September
