Open Callout for Emerging Artists, Hope Street Limited

On The Verge Festival is back in October 2017 – an exciting and dynamic festival, dedicated to supporting and showcasing provocative new work by emerging artists, presented in unusual places and spaces, across the city of Liverpool from 18th to 22nd October 2017.

We are now calling out for proposals of work for inclusion in the festival. We want to hear from emerging artists/companies with fresh ideas, who can challenge themselves and their artforms in new ways to create something unforgettable for audiences.

The deadline for submission of proposals is Sunday 26th March.

On The Verge is presented by Hope Street Ltd, a Liverpool based organisation with over 28 years’ experience of developing artists and artforms. On the Verge not only showcases new work, it’s also a 9 month programme during which the selected artists/companies will have access to a bespoke package of developmental support from Hope Street Ltd before, during and after the festival. This may take the form of creative production support, help with funding, creative mentoring, marketing and future planning.

We want to hear proposals for pieces to take place somewhere that isn’t already an established performance venue or location. Previous years’ locations include a garden, a car, a museum, a street alley, an office, a hotel, a private residency and many more. It is up to the artist to specify the location or type of place for the work to be performed. Hope Street Ltd will work with successful applicants as required, to secure the desired space.

We are looking for the most exciting, edgy and innovative work by the next generation of performance makers and creators.

Proposals can be:

  • For any live performance work (drama, dance, live art, etc)
  • Cross art form pieces (work that incorporates drama, music, visual arts, media etc).

Proposals should be:

  • For work that takes place outside a traditional performance venue, and/or uses a space in a new and innovative way
  • New or developing pieces; this call-out is not for established pieces of work already shown elsewhere, unless there are notable changes to the piece
  • From artists at the onset of their career

Performances must be:

  • Available for dates between 18th and 22nd October in Liverpool
  • Accessible to all members of the public – when developing your concept, please bear this in mind as a requirement of any proposed site

How to apply

Complete the online form by Sunday 26th March by visiting:

www.hope-street.org

The form includes an option to add documents, images or video of previous work and we strongly encourage you to do this to support your application.

This online application form requires you to input all your information in one go, so please be aware that you will not be able to save your application and go back to it later.

Selection

When selecting work for inclusion in On The Verge 2017, the panel will make their decisions based on the following:

  1. The quality of the artistic proposal
  2. Evidence of previous work
  3. Logistical and practical considerations of realising the piece
  4. Priority in the first instance will be given to Merseyside and North West-based artists
  5. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a brief interview/pitch on 3rd April 2017: applicants must be available for that date

Successful applicants will receive expenses towards local travel and food/refreshments for the duration of their participation in On The Verge. A small contribution may also be available towards the costs of realising the work.
