Deadline: 9am Monday 18 July 2016.
Interviews: 4 August at Penrhyn Castle
Bursary/Fee: £30,000, plus £6000 fabrication/presentation
Over the past two years Penrhyn Castle has been developing an exciting and ever-changing program of residencies. Now we’re looking for our final artist/collaboration or artist group to finish off the project with a bang.
Supported through a 3 year partnership with the Arts Council of Wales we’ve been able to open our doors and archives to artists, who’ve researched and challenged us to look again at the stories that can be found here and locally.
We are now issuing an open call to find the next artist/collaboration or artist group for a 12 month part time residency from September 2016 – October 2017.
Past artists in residence forged new relationships with our local communities and successfully enabled our staff, volunteers and visitors to think differently about our stories, our place and our collections.
We’re looking for experienced artists to build on the successes of past residencies. You’ll have a collaborative/ participative approach and will have been delivering large scale project in the public domain for at least 10 years and have a high level of peer recognition. A fee of £30,000 is available with £6,000 for materials /presentation. The brief is open to visual artists working in any media.
Areas of research and ideas to explore of interest may be; Penrhyn in world context; its material culture or its hidden stories.
There is a shared studio base available at Penrhyn and you’ll be required to spend and intense research period on site during September – October 2016.
Following on from this there will time to develop your ideas and new work, engage the staff, volunteers and selected audiences and an exhibition or presentation period from June – October 2017.
You’ll also be able to stay over as accommodation may be arranged on site!
